My Ideas as an Exchange Student

I always wonder what happens to all those shower thoughts, all those random musings on the ride home that you forget to write down. Do they go off to other people’s brains and root there or wave their arms up and down until someone who’s had the presence of mind to have a pen handy writes them down and pins these elusive ideas to paper?

So that years after, you’re looking at some million dollar movie idea and say, hey, I had that selfsame idea two years ago in the shower but hey, no water proof paper shrug. Amazing how two minds can think similar parallel thoughts at the same time, must be some kind of freakish crowd-think.

But what if it’s not. What if it was the EXACT same thought form that wandered into your shower, shyly drip dropping down your head in your shower that clung on to dear life with your no more tears shampoo until you shook your head and sent it on its way. Unnoticed. Unloved. Unknown.

Then this douche – let’s hide him behind the name Abrams – comes and launches the genius idea I had a mere months ago. Shucks.

But if I never put that idea down to paper, was it really mine to begin with? What if ideas belong to no one and they’re like that free-spirited girl you went to high school with who dated everyone and no one. Everyone wanted her and no one possessed her – yet she possessed everybody. Should we treat ideas like that? Like some visiting notion that if you’re not careful can disappear as quickly as she came, like some Latvian transfer student whose dad was a diplomat or something.

Or mebbe he was an Eastern European SPY. Wait, where’s my notebook?
